John Moneyhun, DMD

Dr. Moneyhun’s journey to becoming the remarkable, top-rated, and leading dentist near Columbus he is today started back in college when his cousin became an orthodontist. One summer, Dr. Moneyhun decided to explore his interest by shadowing a dentist. It didn’t take long for him to realize that a significant part of the role involved working with his hands and helping others. Because those two were his passions, he instantly knew that dentistry was the career he was meant to pursue.

Dr. Moneyhun completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Tennessee. Afterward, he earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine at MUSC in 2016 and also received the South Carolina Dental Association award for outstanding scholastic accomplishments and clinical abilities.

Throughout his college career, Dr. Moneyhun was trained by expert clinicians on the most advanced technologies, techniques, and materials. Even today, he’s dedicated to continuing his education to provide patients with the high-quality dental care they deserve. Dr. Moneyhun is constantly growing and refining his skill set through the prestigious Dawson Academy and Gordon Christensen’s Practical Clinical Courses.

In an effort to help those who are less fortunate, Dr. Moneyhun went on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic and volunteered at multiple free clinics while in dental school. That’s how passionate he is about helping others! Nowadays, he’s an active volunteer at the Greenville Free Medical Clinic and regularly provides dental care during state-wide Dental Access days. Additionally, Dr. Moneyhun is a proud member of the Academy of Operative Dentistry.

One of Dr. Moneyhun’s favorite things to do as a dentist near Columbus is build strong, meaningful relationships with his patients. He enjoys getting to know every friendly face that walks through his door and sharing stories with them while simultaneously working together to maintain good oral health. Dr. Moneyhun believes that prioritizing relationships will only help patients have a joyful experience throughout every stage of treatment.

All in all, Dr. Moneyhun spends a lot of his time learning about the latest in dentistry and helping patients obtain their healthiest, happiest smiles. Outside of the dental office, he enjoys spending quality time with his loving wife, adorable son, and playful Black Lab named Maggie. He’s also an outdoor enthusiast and could spend his entire days under the sun if he could! Some of Dr. Moneyhun’s favorite activities include playing golf, working on his vegetable garden, hunting, and fishing.

What Do You Do If You Can’t Afford a Dentist?

When it comes to the care of your teeth and gums, prevention is key. And no oral hygiene routine is complete without six-month checkups and cleanings with your dentist. But what if you are feeling a pinch in your wallet? First, it is important to remember that recent research found that every dollar invested in preventive care can save you between $8 and $50 in cosmetic and restorative treatment in the long run. Plus, if you have dental insurance, most plans cover your biannual visits to make attending them the obvious choice for your smile and your wallet. However, if you don’t have dental benefits, then low-to-no interest financing can help break up the cost of even the most extensive treatments into manageable chunks. You can find all our insurance and financing information right here on our website.

What Is the Best Way to Find a Cosmetic Dentist?

Believe it or not, there is no single designation that qualifies a dentist to be a cosmetic dentist. There are several organizations that offer advanced training in cosmetic dentistry. With that in mind, it’s a good idea to look for a dentist with extensive involvement in one of the following high-profile organizations:

How Much Does It Cost to Get a Tooth Pulled Without Insurance?

The answer varies based on multiple factors, including geography and the dental health of the patient. It’s worth noting that the average fee for an extraction across the United States is between $150 and $400. You may need to pay an additional fee if the tooth is difficult to pull out or if other procedures are needed, such as sedation dentistry. Dental insurance can help reduce the fees for extraction, including any out-of-pocket copays. If you need wisdom teeth extraction, it may be more expensive because it often requires the specialized services of an oral surgeon.

What Is the Best Way to Find a Dentist Who Does Dental Implants?

In recent years, dental implants have become the treatment of choice for patients with missing teeth. However, because it’s a major procedure that requires oral surgery and the placement of multiple dental implants, it’s incredibly important to do your research before selecting a dentist for the procedure.

There are two main stages of the dental implant process: placement and restoration. You have to decide if you want to work with a team of dentists or a single dentist who can handle both steps. Make sure the professional you choose has extensive involvement in one of the following high-profile organizations:

What Level of Education is Required to be a Dentist?

Every dentist in the United States must receive a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Science (DDS) from one of the 67 accredited dental schools in the country. Typically, dental school is three years long and involves a combination of classroom and hands-on learning. Some dentists can choose to continue their education by earning one of 12 specializations recognized by the American Dental Association. All dentists are required to complete a certain number of continuing education hours to keep their license.
